Prickett Goes The Distance And The SwampDogs Edge The RedWolves

Fayetteville SwampDogs starting pitcher Ryan Prickett (Pictured:  Courtesy of Wanda West) had little room for error on Wednesday night at J.P. Riddle Stadium.  With his offense struggling to get anything going against Florence RedWolves starter Colby Holmes (South Carolina), Prickett (Southeast Missouri State) knew he needed to be near perfect, and the left-hander from Owasso, OK was just that.  Prickett (4-2) went the distance, throwing a five hit shutout to help the SwampDogs earn a 1-0 win against the RedWolves at J.P. Riddle Stadium.  The win for Prickett was his team-leading fourth of the season.

Prickett had to work out of jams in the second and third innings, stranding a combined four runners in those two innings, but after that the 5-11 left-hander was nearly un-hittable.  Prickett set the down the RedWolves in order in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as he continued to get stronger as the game wore on.  Prickett would run into a little bit of trouble in the seventh, allowing a walk and a base hit, but both runners would be stranded.  The SwampDogs starter showed no signs of fatigue in the eighth and ninth innings, finished out the game with ease.  In his nine innings, Prickett struck out five, while walking two.

Fayetteville (9-5) and Florence (6-6) were tied 0-0 until the bottom of the eighth when Fayetteville used the Florence defense to help them get on the board.  After Christian Cummins (Illinois) flied out to start the eighth, Eric Grabe (Tampa) reached on an error, Corey LeVier (San Diego) walked, Brandon Padula (Maryland) was hit by a pitch and Jake Carlson (Dartmouth) grounded out to second to drive in a run and give the SwampDogs all the offense they would need.

Fayetteville notched only six hits in the ballgame, with Padula earning two of them.
